Content Marketing School: Social Media, Video, AI, Podcast, and LinkedIn Tips for B2B Professionals, Consultants, and Entrepreneurs
085 - Podcasting and Livestreaming Tips and Techniques in 2025: Stand Out, Repurpose, and Grow Your Audienc (Part2)
Podcasting and livestreaming are more than just hitting record—they’re about strategy, engagement, and adaptation.
Explore how these platforms are evolving in 2025, and how creators can leverage video, repurpose content, and improve audio quality to maximize reach and build long-term audience engagement.
In this episode, I share clips from January's Mavens Talk, a monthly audio event I co-host with my friend and colleague Gillian Whitney, Live Stream Strategist / Book Author where we discussed podcasting and livestreaming.
➡️ Our mutual friend, Michelle B. Griffin, joined us for this part of this episode.
Topics included:
🔹 AI’s Growing Role in Podcasting & Content Creation - AI tools like Descript, ChatGPT, and automated audiograms are making podcast production easier. Podfest featured an entire track on AI, including creating AI-powered assistants for podcasting.
🔹 Repurposing Content to Save Time - Recording solo podcast episodes on video allows for easier repurposing into clips, transcripts, and social content. Tools like Riverside and Buzzsprout’s transcript feature help streamline this process.
🔹 The Value (or Lack) of Show Notes & Transcripts - Some podcasters, like Amy Porterfield, emphasize show notes for driving traffic. Others question how many listeners actually read them and whether they provide an SEO benefit.
🔹Podcast & Livestream Cross-Promotion - Many podcasters repurpose livestreams into podcast episodes, making content creation more efficient. Numbering episodes and embedding podcasts in LinkedIn articles can improve discoverability.
🔹 The Fun & Flexibility of Co-Hosting or Panel-Style Podcasts - Having a co-host or panel discussion (like Media Mavens) makes podcasts more dynamic and engaging. These formats allow for spontaneity, deeper conversations, and audience participation.

Now, let's dive in to today's episode. Thanks for joining me for today's episode. Now, today's episode is going to be a little bit different. Each month, I do an audio event with my friend and colleague, Gillian Whitney, and I'll be sharing clips from some of our events on Content Marketing School. This is part two of our January event where the topic was podcasting and live streaming in 2025. Gillian, I had forgotten what I was talking about there.
[00:01:13.800] - Gillian Whitney
When you were at Podfest, I'm interested to know, was there any talk about AI? Because there's the AI tools, which, of course, we both use AI tools. You can use Descript and you can get your audiograms done with AI tools. I had the crazy thing where, I think it was last month, I went and had those AI bots have a review of my podcast Yes. It was crazy and bizarre, but it was a really fun little exercise, too. And then I actually included it as my podcast episode. I introduced it so that people wouldn't think I'd gone nuts, and I explained that I was doing this experiment. But I think that there's just lots of cool things, and AI is going to be even more important. Anyways, I'm interested to know what takeaways you got from the podfest about AI.
[00:02:14.740] - Annette Richmond
Let me just give you a quick overview of Podfest. Podfest was just a wild roller coaster ride. Fun. My head was spinning at the end of the first So yes, there was AI, but I'll lay out the tracks for you, and then you'll see there were five or six different tracks. There was a whole AI track. There was a whole track for authors wanting to promote their books on podcasts. There was a whole other track for monetizing your podcast, another track for growing your podcast. And then there was a wild card track that had all different things in it. So I I think I went to a few AIs. One of them was showing how to create your own AI assistant. Using AI AI. They were talking about using AI in your podcast, I met one young man just walking walking the halls who had his dog there? You would have loved it. A little dog sitting right around his neck. The podcast that he does, that his company does, it's called New Horizons. I haven't checked it out yet, but they interview people in a metaverse. Was there AI there? Yes. There was an entire track, and this was like this every single day.
[00:03:58.330] - Annette Richmond
The podcast was three three days long. So yes, every day they were talking about with AI. To be honest with you, I didn't go to... Some of it was more basic for people just learning what they could do with, Oh, and here You can use ChatGPT. And then I went to several on books and getting information for your book. And one of the things for that was being on other podcasts. So there or there were just so many things. I haven't even gone back, honest with you, and look back on my notes yet. But yeah, there was a whole track on AI, so I would say, yes, they're talking about it.
[00:04:40.900] - Gillian Whitney
Cool. So do you get video replays, or did you just If you didn't go to it, you didn't get it type of thing.
[00:04:49.080] - Annette Richmond
They had different options. I didn't opt for the videos. Part of the thing is, though, and I'm sure you've been to conferences, too, when you go and you get the video, But do you ever watch them?
[00:05:02.260] - Gillian Whitney
A lot of times, no.
[00:05:05.330] - Annette Richmond
Right now, I'm in four membership programs. Oh, my gosh. Well, one, LinkedIn, focused on LinkedIn. One is marketing. Another one is I'm working on a course right now, so it's through that my course training. The other one I told you I joined. It's a video community, and it's just so fun that I just had to be there. But that and creating my own content takes a lot of time. But I will say one thing and one reason that I decided to follow this new podcast strategy is I'm trying to save time. So if I can record my podcast in video, because I'm not about to be doing it live. If I do a live solo, sometimes I'm using slides, and so that doesn't really translate to a podcast. But if I can do the video and have the same platform create the clips and then give me a transcript because Apple adds a transcript to your episodes, which is something they started- Very nicely.
[00:06:18.830] - Gillian Whitney
It does a really nice job. Yeah.
[00:06:21.680] - Annette Richmond
But if you have the option to put it on Buzz Sprout, and then I'm assuming if you put it right up there, that it will also be on Spotify and other platforms, because I'm pretty much an Apple podcast user, so I don't listen on other platforms. But I'm assuming if Buzz Sprout has the option to add the transcript, I'm sure it's good for search and everything else.
[00:06:46.760] - Gillian Whitney
Absolutely. And again, taking the transcript, do you do that, take transcripts and then turn them into other content? Yeah. I've turned them into books and articles. Oh, yeah. That, too. So I'm a firm believer in that, and I think I could even be doing more. And I think there should be video repurposing, and I'm not doing enough of that. Like you said, there's just sometimes just not enough hours in the day or week, and you're just like, oh. So one question I do have, I wonder if they talked about, I don't do show notes, and I've often wondered if I should do show notes because you listen to Amy Porterfield, and she's like, At the end, go get me show notes. And I understand that it's a great way to drive people back to your website, and they'll go there, and they'll get the download. So it makes sense from a whole marketing perspective. But I'm just wondering, in terms of the consumer, are people really accessing show notes? Is it really worth it? That would be my biggest podcast So this is based on my opinion because I did not go to any sessions talking about that.
[00:08:07.460] - Annette Richmond
But since Buzz Sprout has show notes that you can change and they go with every episode, I use them and I change them periodically. But I agree with you. I don't know how many people actually go to the show notes unless maybe it's a a video podcast and they're watching it on something. I changed that strategy a little bit, too, because I would say something like, Get my video cheat sheet, click on the link in the show notes. That's what you're talking about, right? What I did just recently is I purchased a new website, and it's contentmarketingschool. Org. My new promo on my podcast is, download my cheat sheet, go to contentmarketingschool. Org/videocheechee. That's what I decided to do because I hear things like Amy Portefield, too. She'll say, amyportefield. Com/fabulous. Com. Thing, whatever it is. I just started that in the last... Since I came back from Podfest, I decided to do that. I couldn't get contentmarketingschool. Com, but I figured if people are listening, the podcast is that name. So I'll have to see if I get any a boost. But that's what I'm trying because I agree with you. But do you use the show notes on Buzzsprout?
[00:09:43.470] - Annette Richmond
Because they're.
[00:09:44.560] - Gillian Whitney
Yeah, I guess, yeah, I do. I use the show notes field to... If you want to learn more, and it's just like text, if you want to learn more, go to easypzebooks. Com. And Here's my connect with me on LinkedIn, and then I put my profile, and then I always put the profile of my guest as well. And just a little blurb, of course, what the podcast was even about, and that's what I have. But I guess I don't click over to get the transcript. And that's one of the things I remember always listening to Amy Portafold. She'd be like, show number 792. And then you'd go over and then you download. And it was the whole transcript transcript. And I've often wondered how many people click over to get the transcript because most of us are doing something else when we're listening to a podcast. We're at the gym, we're going for a walk. So to be honest with you, I don't know. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've ever gone to somebody's website to download the transcript. And I just wondered, I still see people to do it.
[00:11:00.600] - Gillian Whitney
I've never done that, having transcripts that are available for people to read, just if you think it's worth it.
[00:11:09.130] - Annette Richmond
Well, I don't know. I'm guessing Apple does if they decided to start adding them.
[00:11:15.400] - Gillian Whitney
Yeah.
[00:11:16.230] - Annette Richmond
So I mean, that's what- But is that an accessibility thing?
[00:11:21.760] - Gillian Whitney
I remember when Apple launched their transcripts, and I I got the thing as a podcast host that this was going to be happening, and it seemed that they were talking about it from an accessibility issue, that they were doing this so that people could be reading the transcript because it's actually live, reading the transcript as they're listening. So I'm often thinking of anybody who's either deaf or hearing impaired, or I don't know, maybe they want to listen to the podcast, but they don't have their headphones or I don't know. I've always thought that was more of an accessibility, and I don't even know if you can download those. I don't know if the person can download those or just read them.
[00:12:11.420] - Annette Richmond
I don't know. But I'm going to be doing a... I am guessing that there might be some SEO value to that. The reason I say that is, I listen to a podcast called Podcasting Business School, and I was so excited. I got to meet the host at Podfest. He was such a nice, nice, lovely, lovely guy. His name is Adam. I can't pronounce his last name, but Podcasting Business School. It's a great podcast for podcasters. Lots of great information. Since I was listening to that podcast and I fiddled with the intro, the description of my podcast, and I fiddled with the name adding, and I found that that it did boost my downloads. So I'm guessing if that's so, I extended the podcast name. It's Content Marketing School, just like the live and the podcast, the same name. But I added it for my target audience, and then I added things that are talked about on the show, and it has boosted my search. One of the things that he talks about is SEO for your podcast. I'm guessing that's probably the case with everything today. When you think about it, our LinkedIn articles are indexed by Google, so we have to think about SEO for them.
[00:13:54.560] - Annette Richmond
I'm going to be having an episode on SEO in a few weeks. So that's one of the things that I will have to ask my guest to talk about.
[00:14:05.420] - Gillian Whitney
And you could ask your husband.
[00:14:07.200] - Annette Richmond
Well, he's my guest. This is his third guest on my show. And I have to tell you, It's such a hot topic. It's such a hot topic. And I have him right here, and he's good. So I figure, okay.
[00:14:22.620] - Gillian Whitney
I love that. I love that.
[00:14:24.160] - Annette Richmond
That's how I'm on the show.
[00:14:25.060] - Gillian Whitney
And that makes sense. And you just reminded me of why it's probably a really good idea if you're doing a podcast, maybe you don't want to do it for every episode because it would maybe be too much, but I don't know, who knows? But to think about taking your podcast episodes and embedding them inside an article on LinkedIn, because then that makes your podcast episode much more findable on Google than just the episode by itself. So Just sometimes people want to get the nuggets before they invest the whole like, oh, I don't know if I want to listen to this. So if you get an idea of, oh, this is what they talked about. Oh, maybe I do want to listen to this.
[00:15:13.810] - Annette Richmond
Yeah. Oh, no. I'm with you 100 %. I want to say hi, a shout out, hi to Michelle, too. Please do come up and join us on the stage. We'd love to have you come up and chat with us. But that's also why one thing, and I think you and I both do this, I didn't do it with in my previous podcast is I number all of the episodes, so it makes it easy to say, oh, and I will do that on some of my podcasts. I just did one on recording and editing video, and and talked a little bit about music copyright. But I mentioned in there, if you're interested in more, go to episode number, whatever it was, 76 or something. There we go. That's good. I think learning all these I mean, we learn as we go, and we've both been now podcasting for several years and livestreaming for several years. We're supposed to be talking. We talked a lot about podcasting. And I think our live streaming and podcasting go half and half. I have been putting my livestreams on my podcast since I started doing it back in 2021. But now I feel like it's like everybody does it.
[00:16:42.700] - Gillian Whitney
Yes. Yay, Michelle is here. Hey, Michelle.
[00:16:45.390] - Annette Richmond
Thanks for joining us.
[00:16:47.330] - Michelle B Griffin
It's so good to be here. Now, I'm not on my normal microphone laptop. You're fine. Can you hear me okay?
[00:16:54.120] - Gillian Whitney
You're fine. Sounds great. I wonder if we could... Since the topic is specifically livestreaming and podcasting today, Michelle, I wonder if you could just give us your insight, because you juggle two podcasts, which I find that quite commendable. So you do one co-hosting with Michelle J. Raymond, and you do your own. So do you want to just have any little thoughts on doing two?
[00:17:24.200] - Michelle B Griffin
Well, I guess these are different. Michelle and I could talk to the end of time, right? So we just get on, have a good topic and rip, like what you guys are doing here. But we're strategic and intentional and have takeaway. So that one really, we've gotten to now where we're planning out the month themes and the episode. So you have to really know, and we take turns with editing So that helps, too. So having a hosted one, as long as you're on the same page, it helps that we have the same long-range vision, but we help people in different ways, Hearst for companies, me for personal brands. So that's doable. And then for me, my Mine's been around since June of 2021, but I've publicly admitted, I've let it... One year, I let it lapse. I just haven't been committed to it, and that's on me. So it is a little challenging, but I'll say that I didn't have that. I think you might need some help if you want to stay consistent, hiring someone like Devon or whomever to just help you because Gillian, you have Devon to help you. Can you imagine if you didn't?
[00:18:27.740] - Gillian Whitney
No, I couldn't because Because it's very difficult, like you said. And with your personal podcast, Standout Women, right? With that one, that's primarily your lives, but do you supplement it with recorded ones in a perfect world? Would you be trying to do the supplement, or do you just like it to be your lives?
[00:18:52.800] - Michelle B Griffin
No. And I called the Standout Woman, yes. I called that a pop-out show because now all the branding is around on your lane for the podcast. So I went back and I called that this pop-up, Standout Women, it was the pop-up live show because my initiative is still standoutwomen. Org. My mantra, my mission to get more women in business and leadership, not just visible, but to stand out. So yes, a lot of those episodes, and I recorded probably three months of them. And so I'm trickling them out now, and they work so well. And then I've tried them both ways. I've tried them with comments, no comments, but I always... I know everyone's different. I think, Annette, I think you added them out once Gillian said, or someone... I like to take them out. I know Gillian, you leave them in. So I think that's personal preference. But with Descript, if I was failing a business and I had to eat peanut butter and If you have one text tool, it would be to have to script because truly it makes podcasting and even video shooting so much easier. So I think having the added bonus of a live, you can, as you said, put it in your newsletters, and then it can go out to YouTube.
[00:20:02.510] - Michelle B Griffin
That's the strategy I use as well, and I definitely recommend.
[00:20:07.040] - Annette Richmond
I'm sorry. Go ahead, Gillian.
[00:20:08.990] - Gillian Whitney
No, you go.
[00:20:10.600] - Annette Richmond
No, I was going to say I do edit out comments When I'm posting this, for example, though, on my podcast, obviously, I'm going to keep in all of our conversation. But if we were just responding to a comment or something like that, if it's on a live show, I don't. I do eliminate those. And part of the reason I do it is because if somebody is listening to the podcast, they're really not part of a conversation. And so sometimes it can go on, lengthy people talking. You can get into like, Can you hear me? Oh, can you hear me? And so I cut that out. I do cut that stuff out. But it's easier with video. And I was telling Gillian when we started that I've decided to start recording my solo podcast episodes on video, which is something that I learned at podcast, to record them on video so that I can repurpose the videos and get clips of the videos and then get the transcript. I've decided to use Riverside, which is similar to Descript. It's just another one of those things. Exactly. But I've used that before. That way I'll be recording in video and be able to use that.
[00:21:38.390] - Annette Richmond
I just want to say something here. All of a sudden, the time has flown by, and it's almost time for us to go. But I just want to say one thing, Michelle, when I beg and pleaded Gillian to do these audio events with me, and now it's been what? Over a year and a half we've been doing this. What I was thinking of was watching the trifecta Trijfecta Talks because you all, the three of you, were doing it. And I was like, Gillian, they just get up and they know each other and they talk about a topic. We could do that. It's like it's fun for us. It's like a whole different thing than doing a live show.
[00:22:12.630] - Michelle B Griffin
Exactly. It's fun. That's how Michelle and I are when we record the podcast. And then, yeah, I love the Trijfecta Talks. So, yeah, you just got to do something's fun. I think having a hosted show is definitely fun, humanizing, engaging. It's something different. There's not enough. There's not that many hosted shows. And especially in this area. So I think it invites us to the conversation. We feel like we're just coffee talking, right? Yeah. Of course, everyone is throwing their arms up about this LinkedIn audio revamp, but it's fine. It's totally fine. It is what it is. We have no choice, right? Yeah.
[00:22:48.030] - Annette Richmond
That is what it is, is right. The thing is, I don't see a lot of audio shows like this. I know Felipe. Felipe, he's such a great host do, that he does a few of them with partners. I think you have to do with a partner, but I don't see a lot of these audio events. I think it's better for us, I guess. But thank you so much for joining us, Michelle I'm so glad that you came up on stage and chatted with us. See, it's so fun, right?
[00:23:19.350] - Michelle B Griffin
It was very fun. Thank you. It was spontaneity, and that's what I love. You ladies are just tremendous in what you do. Thank you for being the Media Mavens and sharing your talk and your expertise. We Thank you.
[00:23:31.200] - Annette Richmond
Thank you. Well, thank you so much. Okay, Gillian, and I'm going to just play our outro, and we will be gone.
[00:23:38.500] - Gillian Whitney
All right.
[00:23:40.620] - Annette Richmond
